“It’s Friday, Friday, gotta write ‘Song Of The Week’ on Friday” as a wise popfool known as Rebecca ‘Godbecca’ Black once sung. She was right about our writing habits; it IS Friday and it IS song of the week time.
‘Weight Of Living, Pt. I’ was a ‘hidden’ track on the Bastille album, tacked on to the end of ‘Get Home’, which it seriously overshadowed. We think it deserved a place on the album in its own right, because over the past couple of months we have grown to adore this song. Our favourite thing about this song is the use of the albatross metaphor, a reference of course to a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The vocals are sublime and the melody gorgeous. We find the song cathartic, and unlike the too-happy Pt II, it has a more fitting gentle sound which will soothe you perfectly on Friday after a long, hard week of work. Ideal.
